Barceló Hotel Group has announced the opening of Occidental Bangtao Beach Resort on Bang Tao Beach in Phuket, Thailand, on one of the island’s best-known beaches. It is the group’s second hotel in Thailand, after Barceló Coconut Island, and follows the management agreement the group announced in June. For anyone in the UAE planning a Thai beach break, it is one more beachfront option to consider.
Rooms and the pool
The resort has 202 rooms and suites across 15 categories. Of these, 86 overlook the pool and open straight onto it. The pool itself is large and runs through most of the outdoor space, and the resort sits directly on Bang Tao Beach.
Eating and drinking
The main social spot is the Beach Club restaurant and bar, which looks over Bang Tao Beach and the Andaman Sea and serves Italian and Thai food, with live music and entertainment. There is also a buffet restaurant, a poolside snack restaurant and a café on the beach.
For families and groups
Activities range from time on the beach to sports, yoga, massages and cooking classes, and families get dedicated facilities including a kids’ club. The resort also has four meeting and event rooms, including a ballroom for more than 200 people, for company meetings, groups and incentive trips.
José Canals, Chief Operating Officer for the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Asia at Barceló Hotel Group, said the opening is a new step in the group’s growth strategy in Asia, adding a resort that combines a beachfront location with a range of facilities, entertainment and dining. He said it strengthens the group’s presence in Thailand, a market he described as attracting strong interest from international travellers.
