Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts is inviting Indian travellers to spend Diwali in the Maldives this year, with three of its island resorts each taking a different approach to the Festival of Lights. The group calls the programme The Island Diwali and pitches it at families who want the festival’s traditions without the rush of a packed social calendar.
Atmosphere Kanifushi Maldives: a week of thalis
From 1 to 7 November, the resort’s vegetarian restaurant JUST VEG will serve a different regional Indian thali at lunch each day, so a week of lunches works through the food of several parts of India. On 8 November the celebrations move to THE SPICE for a Grand Diwali Celebration with an Indian feast, live entertainment, music, festive décor and a canopy of lights.
VARU by Atmosphere: a family buffet
At VARU by Atmosphere, the Lime & Chili restaurant hosts an Indian buffet built around the family table, with biryanis, curries, grills, street-food favourites, vegetarian dishes and desserts.
RAAYA by Atmosphere: the island as the party
RAAYA by Atmosphere turns the island itself into the celebration. Children can make diyas, families can create rangoli together, and a beach treasure hunt takes the activities down to the shore. As the light fades there is a traditional diya-lighting ceremony with festive cocktails at RAAYA Life Beach, followed by a Diwali-themed dinner buffet. RAAYA Hub then closes the night with a Bollywood DJ, music and dancing.
What the release does not say
The release gives dates only for Atmosphere Kanifushi. It does not say which day the VARU and RAAYA celebrations take place, and it gives no prices, packages or booking details for any of the three resorts, so check with the resorts directly before planning a trip.
