Families at the Smart Sustainability Family event at India Club, Dubai, on 24 October 2026 pledged to adopt one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and work towards it at home. The event, the second session of SmartLife Foundation’s Smart Sustainability Family Initiative, brought together members of India Club, SmartLife Foundation and Ranches Ladies with sustainability enthusiasts from across the UAE.
Its message was that sustainability is not only a job for governments, institutions and corporations, but a shared responsibility that begins with individual choices and everyday actions in families and communities. SmartLife says the initiative brings blue-collar and white-collar families together to understand sustainability and the goals, and to turn everyday choices into action.
Four voices on one panel
A panel discussion brought together representatives of four groups: blue-collar workers, Generation Z, women in the family and corporate leadership. They discussed the challenges of adopting sustainable practices, the role different sections of society can play in driving change, and the practical steps needed. The panel stressed inclusive participation, collaboration between generations, responsible consumption and collective action.
From pledge to awards
To keep families going after the event, SmartLife set up a WhatsApp family group where participants can share ideas, document their sustainability activities with photographs and other evidence, track progress and learn from one another. The initiative will end with an award function in January 2027, where the best-performing sustainable families will be recognised for their commitment, participation and impact.
Families can register their interest at smartlifefoundation.org/ssf, and SmartLife is inviting companies to host sessions for their employees in partnership with the foundation.
SmartLife Foundation is a Dubai non-profit registered with the Community Development Authority of Dubai. It works with frontline and blue-collar communities through education, skills development, health and wellbeing, and community engagement programmes.
