Chef Kelvin Cheung has added a shorter tasting menu to the Jun’s offering, giving diners a way to experience the restaurant’s cooking without committing to a full-length sitting.
Called ‘The Short Story’, the new six-course menu draws on the same flavours and culinary references that Jun’s regulars will recognise, presented in a more compact format.
The menu is priced at Dhs225 and takes its inspiration from Kelvin’s travels and personal history. It opens with lobster pani puri, a reworked version of one of the restaurant’s established starters, followed by watermelon with dry-aged sea bream and wasabi-infused olive oil, a dish that came out of a creative collaboration in Amman.
Next comes a hot and sour wonton soup, which references Kelvin’s time in Chicago and draws on his mother’s original recipe. The dish is built around scallops and mini wontons.
For the main course, diners choose between wagyu steak served with handmade noodles, or the juicy Lucy burger — a wagyu patty filled with molten cheese and served with griddled onions, pickles and jalapeño.
The dessert section opens with loomi paleta, which brings together Emirati flavour and a nod to Chicago summers, before closing with a pu-erh chocolate ganache rooted in childhood food memories.
Each guest leaves with a box of Kelvin’s petit fours to finish.
The menu is available to anyone who wants a clear introduction to what Jun’s does, whether they are a regular or visiting for the first time. It captures the restaurant’s focus on dishes tied to specific memories and places.
